Wrestling Moves Up To No. 6 In Latest National Poll; SC To Host Doug Parker Invitational Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 19, 2004 – The Springfield College wrestling team moved up four spots to No. 6 in the latest Brute/Adidas Division III National Coaches poll. The Pride will host the 15th-annual Doug Parker Invitational this Saturday (Nov. 20) in Blake Arena with matches starting at 10:00 a.m.

Preseason ranked No. 10, SC moved up in the latest poll (Nov. 17) after finishing first in a field that included eight nationally-ranked teams at the Ithaca College Invitational (Nov. 6), and placing six wrestlers in the top-six of their respective weight classes at the predominantly Division-I Empire State Open at Cortland last Saturday (Nov. 13).

Three SC wrestlers are listed in the latest individual national rankings. Sophomore All-American Mike Gaeta (Manalapan, N.J.), who finished fifth at the NCAA Division III Championships last winter, is ranked fifth at 141 pounds this season, while sophomore Mike DeCiccio (Cranston, R.I.) (149 lbs.) and senior Scott Fay (Danbury, Conn) (285 lbs.) are ranked eighth at their respective weight classes.
