

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 21, 2007 – Springfield College sophomore middle blocker Andrew Sipe (New Oxford, Pa.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Hay Division Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday afternoon, February 20th.
Sipe, a native of New Oxford, Pa., and member of the New Oxford Juniors Club, came up big in victories over the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and Rivier College last week. Against NJIT (Feb. 16), Sipe totaled a match-high six blocks to go along with six kills for 10 points. The All-American’s six kills came on 13 swings with just one error for a .385 hitting percentage. Against Rivier (Feb. 17), Sipe hit .800 with eight kills on just 10 swings and racked up another match-best seven blocks.
Sipe is ranked third in blocks per game amongst EIVA leaders with an average of 1.52 and fourth overall in hitting percentage (.427). Sipe also leads the Pride in total blocks with 73 (11 solo, 52 assisted). He has recorded 144 points (3.00/game) on the season which ranks him second on the team.
SC, which is currently ranked fourth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men’s Top 15 Coaches Poll, is coming off a 3-0 (30-19, 30-22, 30-25) win over Vassar College on Tuesday night (Feb. 20). The win marked the Pride’s third straight and fifth over the past six matches. SC is currently 11-5 overall and 3-0 in the EIVA Hay Division.
The Pride next returns to EIVA Hay Division play on Friday evening, February 23rd, when Sacred Heart University comes to Blake Arena for a 7:00 p.m. start.
With four national championships to his credit, Charlie Sullivan will enter his 12th season as head coach of the men's volleyball team in 2010. In 11 previous years at the helm, Sullivan owns an overall record of 153-124 for a .552 winning percentage. Read more.
