

GRAFTON, Mass., September 24, 2005 - Springfield College junior Tetsuji Kambara (Osaka, Japan) ran to a 21st-place finish as the Pride took seventh in the Tufts Jumbo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon, September 24, in Grafton, Mass.
Kambara covered the eight kilometer course in 26:48. Pride freshman Michael Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) was the second SC runner to cross the line (36th place, 27:24), followed by senior Scott Barton (Fort Plain, N.Y.) (38th, 27:29) and senior Patrick DeRocco (Utica, N.Y.) (50th, 27:55). Junior Patrick Gann (Guilford, Conn.) (55th, 27:59) rounded out the top five for the Pride followed closely by seniors Christopher Hamel (Methuen, Mass.) (58th, 28:04) and Patrick Byrne (Tolland, Conn.) (70th, 28:26).
SC took seventh (175 points) in the meet consisting of some of the top Division II and III teams in the region. Tufts won the meet with 45 points and Wesleyan finished second with 64.
The Pride now has a week off before traveling to Franklin Park in Boston for the Open New England Championships on Saturday, October 8.
Peter Ferraro, a 2007 graduate of Springfield College, enters his second season at the helm of men's cross country team at his alma mater.
