Football Slips to #2 in New England Division III Coaches Poll; Falls to #15 Nationally

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 30, 2006 – The 7-1 Springfield College football team has fallen to a No. 2 ranking in the New England Division III Coaches poll, released Monday. The Pride was ranked No. 1 in the first six polls of 2006.

SC recorded five first-place votes (out of 14). Overall, the Pride has amassed 127 points, while first-place Williams College (6-0) has 132 (including six first-place votes). Curry (9-0) remained third with 118 points and the other three first-place votes.

In addition, SC has been ranked 18th nationally (down four spots) by D3football.com, and has moved down three spots to No. 15 in Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

Head Coach Mike DeLong Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 28th season as a head football coach in the fall of 2009. He enters his 26th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 25 years (1984 through 2008, inclusive), he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
