

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 2, 2007 – Springfield College sophomore All-American Ryan Fredrickson (Manahawkin, N.J.) totaled a season-high 14 kills (.435 hitting percentage), and added two blocks and one service ace for a total of 16 points as the fifth-ranked Pride defeated Vassar College, 3-0 (30-28, 30-23, 30-17), this evening in non-conference action in Blake Arena.
The win marks SC’s sixth in a row, as the Pride is now 6-3 overall on the season. Over the past six matches, SC has dominated its competition, winning 18 of its past 19 games overall. The Brewers of Vassar College fall to 2-2 on the young season.
Pride junior outside hitter Eric Palumbo (Chili, N.Y.) racked up 12 kills and seven digs in the win, as freshman outside hitter AJ Nally (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a match-best eight digs. Junior Dave Smietana (Buffalo, N.Y.), junior Chris Shekell (Rochester, N.Y.), sophomore Andy Sipe (New Oxford, Pa.) and Nally all finished with four blocks apiece.
Vassar College junior outside hitter Tom Pawlowski led the Brewers with 13 kills to go along with four digs and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Scott Leserman and freshman outside hitter Phil Tully each tallied nine kills for the visiting Brewers. Junior libero Kyle Giunta finished with a team-high six digs.
Amongst the setters, SC’s Shekell registered a match-best 35 assists, whereas Vassar sophomore John Kessenich compiled 31 of his own.
The Pride will next look to capture its seventh straight victory when it travels to top-ranked Juniata College on Saturday evening, February 3rd, in a 7:00 p.m. start in Huntingdon, Pa., for a crucial match between two of Division III’s top five squads.
With four national championships to his credit, Charlie Sullivan will enter his 12th season as head coach of the men's volleyball team in 2010. In 11 previous years at the helm, Sullivan owns an overall record of 153-124 for a .552 winning percentage. Read more.
