DECATUR, Ill., May 29, 2004 – Springfield College senior
Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) capped an amazing senior season by earning All-America honors in the 400 meters at the NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Millikin University.
The Pride, which totaled eight All-Americans in the indoor and outdoor seasons, finished tied for 32nd overall.
Jaroszewicz, who finished third in the 400 at the NCAA indoor championships in March, repeated the performance in the event final on Saturday afternoon. He ran third (47.45) behind two Wisconsin-Lacrosse All-Americans. Senior Andrew Rock, who qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials with a time of 45.58, won the event, and sophomore Nate Olson edged Jaroszewicz at 47.34. Olson and Jaroszewicz both ran 47.29 in the second heat of the prelims. That time is an SC outdoor record.
Junior
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) also earned All-America accolades, placing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 54 feet, 5.5 inches. He won the event at the ECAC Division III Championships (May 15) at Williams, helping the Pride to fifth place, and was also a Division III All-New England and an All-New England selection this spring.
Also competing for SC were junior All-American
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.), who finished sixth in the long jump prelims (22 feet, 4 1.4 inches), and freshman
Cameron Turchetti (South Deerfield, Mass.), who was ninth in the final of the javelin (187 feet, 1 inch).
