Women's Volleyball Sweeps A Pair In Second Day of MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - September 22, 2007 The Springfield College women's volleyball team swept a pair of games in the second day of the MIT Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

With the sweep, Springfield now stands at 10-4 this season. In its first match, the Pride defeated Colby in five games, before sweeping Bowdoin in three games.

In its first match of the afternoon, the Pride received double-digit kill performances from three players en route to a 3-2 win over Colby. Springfield took the match by the scores of 30-28, 25-30, 30-16, 28-30, 15-11. Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the way in the match with 19 kills while Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) added 16 kills. Bethany Stosz (Amherst, Mass.) chipped in with 14 kills as well.

In its second match of the afternoon, the Pride swept Bowdoin in three games in a rematch of a previous meeting this season. Springfield had topped Bowdoin in five games in the Endicott Invitational earlier this year after an outstanding rally. Springfield took today's match by the scores of 30-24, 30-21, 32-30. Yohe paced the Pride with 10 kills in the contest.
