SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 12, 2008) – Roy Burch and Ben Casavant were the headliners as both the Springfield College men's and women's swimming and diving teams proved to be victorious this afternoon at the Art Linkletter Natatorium with wins over both Union College and Hartwick College.

On the whole, on the men's side, Springfield finished 2-0, Union finished 1-1, and Hartwick finished 0-2. On the women's side, all schools finished the exact same way.

In men's swimming and diving, the final scores were: Springfield 157.00, Hartwick 82.00; Union 142.50, Hartwick 84.50; and Springfield 145.00, Union 96.00. In women's swimming and diving, it was Springfield 167.00, Hartwick 75.00; Union 153.00, Hartwick 84.00; and finally, it was Springfield 131.50, Union 110.50.

Burch wound up qualifying for the nationals in the 50 free. He finished first with a time of 21.13 seconds. Casavant also qualified for the natinals in the 3-meter diving event with a point total of 277.15.

Both the Springfield men's and women's teams will be competing at NYU next Wednesday (Jan. 16) at 3 pm.
