DURHAM, N.H. - Springfield College junior Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished third in the 10,000-meter run to lead the Pride to 17th place at the New England Track and Field Championships, Saturday, hosted by the University of New Hampshire. Teams from Division I, II and III made up the 40-team field.
Boston College won the meet with 117 points, followed by UMass (83), New Hampshire and Boston University (67) and Dartmouth (51.50) to round out the top-five teams. Springfield was the sixth-highest Division III team in the field, totaling 13 points.
Young finished in a time of 37 minutes, 9.57 seconds, which met the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Senior Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) finished fifth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 41 feet, 10.5 inches, while junior Yasim Goris (Worcester, Mass.) ran to eighth-place in the 100-meter dash for the second-straight season. Goris clocked a personal-best 12.38 in the trials to qualify for Saturday's final.
Also earning All-New England honors were senior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) who ran a season-best 59.49 to finish eighth in the 400-meter dash, and senior Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.) who landed eighth with a personal best (36-0) in the triple jump.
The Pride hosts the ECAC Division III Championships this Thursday and Friday (May 19-20) on Blake Track.
