NYU Sweeps Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving

NEW YORK, N.Y. (January 17, 2008)Brian Sobol (Stratford, Conn.), Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.), and Melissa Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.) all recorded national qualifying scores on the diving boards, but it was not enough as both the Springfield College men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell at New York University on Wednesday afternoon.

The men fell by a score of 139-104, while the women dropped a 151-92 decision.

On the one-meter board, both the men and women swept the competition. On the women's side, Nelson placed first with her national qualifying mark of 271.88, and was followed by Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) (246.60) and Michelle Reggio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (241.43). Sobol led the men with a first place-finish and a qualifying mark of 276.38. Casavant also qualifed again for nationals as he took second (269.03), while Michael Osborne (Middletown, Conn.)(243.98) placed third.

Moira Price (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) touched first in the 200 free in a time of 2:00.25. In the 200 breast, Price finished first in a qualifying time of 2:27.07.

Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) was victorious in the 50 free (21.34) as well as the 100 free (47.96)

On the three-meter board, Reggio took first with a score of 235.65 as did Casavant with a mark fo 277.65, another qualifying score.

The Pride returns to the Art Linketter Natatorium on Sunday for a tri-meet with NEWMAC foes Coast Guard and MIT. The meet is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
