Men's Golf Finishes Places Fifth of 17 at ECAC Division III Championships
Senior Andrew Wright continued his solid play this season with a tie for 11th out of 90 golfers, shooting rounds of 78 and 77 (155).

BELLINGHAM, Mass., October 9, 2006 – The Springfield College men’s golf team finished fifth in the final standings after two rounds of the ECAC Division III Championships at the New England Country Club in Bellingham, Massachusetts this past weekend. There were 17 teams competing at the 6,463-yard, par-71 layout.

Springfield did well as a team on the final day of competition (Sunday, Oct. 8). The team score of 310 was the fourth-best round of the day, and a full 15 strokes better than SC’s first-day score. Overall, SC finished with a team score of 635 (325-310), some 14 strokes behind winner Salem State College (621).

Behind Salem State, UMass Dartmouth placed second (622). Following in order were; Nichols (624), Castleton State (630), Springfield (635), Western New England (636), Babson (638), Trinity (639), Brandeis (673), MCLA (678), Johnson & Wales and Elms (680), Worcester State (696), Wentworth (701), MIT (722), Suffolk (729), and Becker College (781).

Among individuals, senior Andrew Wright (Hampden, Mass.) shot a 77 on Sunday for a two-day total of 155, putting him in an 11th-place tie. Bryan Chiravolo (80-78, 158) and Greg Levings (81-77, 158) finished in a tie for 14th. Michael LaJoie (86-78, 164) placed 30th, and Matt McCarthy (93-91, 184) finished tied for 69th.

Kyle Pelletier of UMass Dartmouth was the medalist with a score of 147 (75-72), one stroke better than Travis Dewire of Babson (71-77, 148).
