Men's Gymnastics Wins at MIT, 316.200 to 306.700

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- February 9, 2008 -- Keith Stumpf finished first on the vault and second on the pommel horse to lead his Springfield College men's gymnastics team to a victory over MIT this afternoon in Cambridge, 316.200 - 306.700.

A sophomore All-American from Williamsville, N.Y., Stumpf also placed third in the floor exercise with a score of 14.05. His score in the vault was a meet-best 15.05. His score on the pommel horse was 12.05.

Freshman Josh Fox (Ellicott City, Md.) also had a first and two seconds. He placed first in the floor with a 14.2, second in the still rings (13.25), and second in the high bar (12.9).

Springfield placed first in five of the six events. Placing first in the pommel horse was senior Matt Davis (Southboro, Mass.) with a score of 13.0. Capturing first in the still rings was junior Andy Kelly (Marstons Mills, Mass.) with a 13.35. And placing first in the high bar was freshman Michael Freundlich (Westfield, N.J.) with a tally of 13.1.

Other top scores for the Pride included a 14.1 by senior JJ Ferreira (Naugatuck, Conn.), who finished second in the floor exercise; a 14.75 by junior Ken Sloanhoffer (New Windsor, N.Y.), who finished second in the vault; and a 13.5 by Kelly, who finished second in the parallel bars.

Next Saturday, Springfield travels to Temple in Philadelphia for a meet with the Owls at 7:30 pm.
