Women's Lacrosse Downs Keene State, 8-5, in Home-Opener
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 23, 2006 – Springfield College freshman midfielder Meghan Wisell (South Burlington, Vt.) scored three goals in the second half as the Pride defeated non-conference foe, Keene State College, 8-5, this evening at Benedum Field in SC’s 2006 home-opener.
With the victory, the Pride improves to 2-2 overall on the season as the Owls fall to 0-5. SC led early in this one, building a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of action on two unassisted scores from senior forward Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.).
Keene State answered back quickly, however, going on a 3-1 run in the next 20 minutes of action as the score was knotted at three goals apiece going into halftime. In the second stanza, the Pride put together a 5-2 run to take the contest by an 8-5 margin. Junior midfielder Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) scored the game-winner with 18:40 left in regulation. Lampros also added an assist in the win.
Other scorers for SC included junior midfielder Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) with her third goal of the season, and freshman forward Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.), netting her first career collegiate goal. Junior forward Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Bugbee (Granby, Conn.) chipped in with assists in the win.
The Pride will next host MIT on Saturday morning, March 25, in a 10:00 a.m. start. The game will be SC’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.

Head Coach Kristen Mullady
Kristen Mullady ‘00, has been named an assistant professor of physical education and head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady returns to her alma mater to head up a program that went 12-6 and reached the conference tournament championship game a year ago.
