Springfield Wins the New England Men's Gymnastics Invitational Championships
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – March 4, 2007 – A pair of individuals from MIT, Boris Rasin and Brad Sutton, finished 1-2 in the all-around, but it was Springfield College which pulled out the team victory in the New England Men’s Gymnastics Invitational Championships this afternoon at SC’s Blake Arena.
Springfield finished with a total of 186.550 points, followed by MIT with 181.900 points, and James Madison with 164.900 points. Also competing with incomplete teams were Temple with 129.350, Vermont with 123.850, and USA Gymnastics with 64.800. There were also individuals representing SUNY Brockport and a few club teams. Temple was the defending champion.
In the all-around, sophomore Boris Rasin (Brookline, Mass.) and senior Brad Sutton (Rochester Hills, Mich.) placed first and second for the Engineers of MIT. Rasin finished with a score of 47.500, more than two full points ahead of teammate Sutton, who finished with a tally of 45.450. Colin Hill of Sterling Academy placed third with a score of 45.150. Behind him was Springfield sophomore Andy Kelly (Marstons Mills, Mass.) at 44.950 in fourth, JMU junior Derrick Holbert (Westminster, Md.) at 43.150 in fifth, and JMU sophomore Sterling Van Winkle (Tallahassee, Fla.) in sixth at 43.050.
Other winners included R.J. Heflin of Gymnastics and More on floor exercise (8.950), parallel bars (9.000), and pommel horse (9.200), Caldwell of MIT in the high bars (8.250), and sophomore Ken Sloanhoffer (New Windsor, N.Y.) and freshman Keith Stumpf (Williamsville, N.Y.), both of Springfield, in the vault.
Further winners included Rasin of MIT and Springfield sophomore Matt Bolognese (Stony Brook, N.Y.), who tied for first in the rings, with scores of 8.650.

Head Coach Steve Posner
Entering his 28th season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East. Posner, who has coached 135 All-Americans and 18 National Champions, led the Pride to another successful season in 2009.
