SC Football Remains #1 in New England; Moves Up to 19th and 22nd in National Polls

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – October 2, 2006 – The 4-0 Springfield College football team has been ranked #1 in New England again this week in this year’s third New England Division III Coaches poll, released Monday. SC was also ranked #1 in the first two polls of 2006.

SC actually strengthened its hold on first place this week. Last week, Springfield accumulated seven first-place votes (out of 14), while this week that number rose to 11 first-place votes (out of 14). Overall, SC amassed 137 points, while 2nd-place Williams (2-0) had 119 (and one first-place vote). Williams jumped three spots as a result of its huge 41-16 win over Trinity, which had its 31-game winning streak snapped. Curry (5-0) remained third with 113 points and the other two first-place votes.

In addition, SC was ranked 19th nationally (up one spot) by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette and 22nd nationally (up three spots) by d3football.com.
