

Springfield vs. Tufts Box Score
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - September 21, 2007 The Springfield College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in the opening day of the MIT Invitational on Friday evening.
With the split, Springfield now stands at 8-4 this season. The Pride defeated Bates College before falling to Tufts.
The Pride won its opening match of the Invitational in four games over Bates College. Springfield won by the scores of 30-24, 30-20, 28-30, 30-23. Bethany Stosz (Amherst, Mass.) continued to have the hot hand for head coach Joel Dearing's squad, as she led the way with 14 kills and seven blocks. Aylene Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) also had a fine match for the Pride as she chipped in with 11 kills and 17 digs.
In its second match of the evening, Tufts topped the Pride in three games, 30-21, 30-23, 30-26. Ilkson paced the way for Springfield in the match with nine kills.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
