Women's Volleyball Defeats WPI, 3-0, Behind Ilkson's 17 Kills

Worcester, Mass. (October 23, 2007) -- Junior outside hitter Aleyne Ilkson (Baldwin, N.Y.) notched a double-double to help Springfield College defeat host WPI, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference women’s volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The Pride took the match by games scores of 30-13, 30-18 and 30-24.

With the win, Springfield improves to 21-9 overall and 6-2 in the NEWMAC, while the Engineers slip to 11-16 on the year and 1-7 in conference play.

Ilkson led the way for the Pride with 17 kills and 15 digs, while sophomore Heidi Yohe (Deer Park, Wash.) chipped in with nine kills and 11 digs. Classmate Jessica Baldwin (Fairport, N.Y.) also added 11 digs for Springfield.

WPI was paced by Becca Holmberg (Madison, Conn.), who registered a double-double of her own (12 digs and 10 kills) to go along with a solo block. Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, Mass.) tallied 24 assists and two aces while Kate Woodman (Fairfield, Conn.) added five kills and Becca Mattern (Rockville, Conn.) contributed four kills and a pair of solo blocks.

Both teams close out the NEWMAC regular season on Saturday with home matches at 1:00 pm. WPI will entertain Babson while Springfield hosts Clark.
