SPRINGFIELD, Mass., December 1, 2005 – Springfield College has announced the hiring of two assistant coaches for its men’s lacrosse team. Under head coach Keith Bugbee, entering his 22nd season with the Pride, new additions Jeremy Platt and Charlie Lonergan will be joining the staff for the upcoming spring season. In other news, Bugbee has also named the '06 season captains.
Platt, a 2001 Springfield alum, was a Second-Team All-America goalie his senior year, starting in 17 games and contributing to a 16-2 record. In addition, he played professionally for a year in the MLL (Major League Lacrosse) for the Boston Cannons.
Lonergan graduated from Hobart College in 2000, where he played attack and midfield for the Statesmen in the Division I Patriot League. Lonergan’s Division I experience will be very beneficial to the Pride, as SC is regarded as one of the top Division III squads in the nation.
Under the upperclassman leadership of senior quad captains Taylor Brown, Kevin Lynch, Brandon Asplundh, and junior Kyle Cloutier, the Pride will look to continue on last year’s successes, a 12-5 campaign, as SC took the Pilgrim League Championship and advanced to the second round of the Division III Tournament.
The Pride opens its season on the road against Division III-rival Nazareth College on Saturday, March 4, 2006.
Keith Bugbee enters his 27th season as head men's lacrosse coach at Springfield College in 2010. Under his direction, the Pride is one of the top programs in the country. Bugbee's coaching record stands at an impressive 279-133 (.675 winning percentage). Read more.
