Tonight Could Be The Night For Senior Guard Derek Yvon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 7, 2006 – It’s been a long time coming, but tonight could be the night for Springfield College’s and East Longmeadow’s Derek Yvon.

A familiar name in Springfield-area circles, Derek Yvon could tonight, with an emphasis on could, become the school’s all-time leading scorer in men’s basketball. The Pride is hosting Clark University at 7:30 pm as part of a doubleheader. The SC women are playing Amherst in game number one of the evening at 5:30 pm.

Coming off a 32-point effort in last Saturday night’s 84-65 victory over Wheaton, Yvon needs 24 points to become just the second SC men’s basketball player to score 2,000 career points, and just 28 points to become SC’s career leader.

The current leader is Hassan Robinson ’95 with 2,003 points.

Derek currently has 1,976 career points. A native of East Longmeadow and a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, Derek was just yesterday named NEWMAC Co-Player of the Week. It is the second time the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference has so honored Yvon this season.

Springfield’s next two games will be on the road. This Saturday, SC will play at Babson at 3 pm. Next Tuesday, SC will play at WPI at 7:30 pm. SC’s final regular season contest will be at home versus MIT on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 pm.
