

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – February 5, 2007 – Sophomore center Lauren O’Connor of Springfield College earlier today was named this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week.
She was later named ECAC Division III New England Co-Player of the Week.
In a 2-0 week for Springfield (both NEWMAC victories), the Valhalla, N.Y., native played as well as she has all season. She averaged 21.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 assists, while shooting .682 from the floor (15-of-22) and .929 from the free throw line (13-of-14).
In a big 75-68 overtime victory over Mount Holyoke last Wednesday at home, Lauren scored 22 points and added 14 rebounds, three steals, and one assist. She was 5-of-10 from the floor, and 12-of-12 from the line (including 6-of-6 in overtime). Then in a 74-54 win over Wellesley last Saturday, she scored 21 points and added five rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
As a team, Springfield has now won five of its last six games, and has evened its record at 10-10 overall. In NEWMAC play, SC is 6-4, which places it in sixth place in the 10-team league.
SC will play three times this week, twice in non-conference action. On Tuesday night (Feb. 6), the Pride will travel cross-town to meet Western New England College at 5:30 p.m. On Thursday (Feb. 8), the Pride will host a very good Worcester State team in Blake Arena at 7:00 p.m. Then on Saturday (Feb. 10), Springfield will take on Smith in Northampton, Mass. at 2:00 p.m.
Entering her 19th season as head coach in 2009-10, Naomi Graves has directed her squads to an impressive 266-117 record (.695 winning percentage) since joining the Division III ranks in 1995. Graves has led the Pride to eleven post-season bids in the past 14 years, including five berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the past nine years.
