

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 3, 2006- Springfield College senior tri-captain Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.) has been named a 2005 Dartfish/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III First-Team All-America. In the same release, senior tri-captain Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine) landed a spot on the NFHCA All-America Third-Team.
Bascetta, a graduate of Granby Memorial, helped lead the Pride to its second-straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament title, as SC advanced as far as the NCAA Division III ‘Elite 8’, finishing its 2005 season with an impressive 21-3 overall record and a final national ranking of ninth. Bascetta started all 24 games for the Pride, scoring 10 goals while adding two assists for 22 points.
Brooker, an Edward Little High School alumna, scored a team-high 15 goals on the season in 24 games for SC. That, coupled with her three assists on the season, gave the forward a team-best 33 total points in 2005.
After only five years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Rogers, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 94-24 record, good for a winning percentage of .796 at the helm of her alma mater.
