Men's Track & Field Finishes 23rd At New England Championships

DURHAM, N.H. - Springfield College sophomore Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) finished tied for fifth in the high jump to lead the Pride to 23rd place at the New England Track and Field Championships, Saturday, hosted by the University of New Hampshire. Teams from Division I, II and III made up the 40-team field.

Rhode Island won the meet with 126 points, followed by Dartmouth (119), UConn (92), New Hampshire (72) and Sacred Heart (47) to round out the top-five teams. Springfield was the ninth-highest Division III team in the field, totaling 7.5 points.

Coagan provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships, clearing a height of 6 feet, 8 inches in the high jump.

Senior Jason Burnell (Poland, Maine) finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, while sophomore Alex Kampersal (Natick, Mass.) ended up eighth in the shot put (50-0 1/2). The top-eight finishers in each event were named All-New England.

The Pride hosts the ECAC Division III Championships this Thursday and Friday (May 19-20) on Blake Track.
