Women's Track & Field Third At Bowdoin

NEW BRUNSWICK, Maine Jan. 29, 2005 – Springfield College senior Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) won the shot put (39 feet, 5 ½ inches) and placed fifth in the weight throw (41-10 1/2) to lead the Pride to third place out of four teams at Bowdoin College on Saturday.

Tufts won the meet with 270 points, followed by Bowdoin (173.50), SC (129.50), and Gordon (96).

SC junior Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) sprinted to a first place in the 55 meters (7.57), placed sixth in the 200 meters (28.38) and participated on the winning 4x200-meter relay.

Other place winners for the Pride included senior Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.), who took third in the triple jump (35-5 1/4), and 55-meter hurdles (9.21), and junior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.) who ran to third place in the 400 meters (1:02.90). Junior Sarah Tyman (Suffield, Conn.) finished third in the 600 meters (1:42.25), while freshman Sarah Rioux (Turner, Maine) placed second in the high jump (4-11 3/4).

Goris, Tyman, Miner and freshman Whitney DeGroff (Tigard, Ore.) teamed to win the 4x200-meter relay, posting a time of 1:52.77.

The Pride travels to Medford Mass. on Saturday, February 5 to take part in the annual Tufts Invitational.
