WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., September 15, 2005 - Springfield College sophomore forward Christine Turbitt (East Providence, R.I.) evened the score at one apiece with just four and a half minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, but it was Williams College that stole away a victory from the Pride on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 15), 2-1, as the Ephs scored with just a mere two seconds left in double overtime in Williamstown, Mass.
The goal for Turbitt, which was assisted by sophomore forward Nicole Hanewich (Cumberland, R.I.), was the forward's third in SC's past two matches.
With time dwindling away, Williams sophomore Ana Sani sprinted down the left-hand sideline from about sixty yards out and initially made a long touch with the ball that brought her into scoring position. Sani then manuevered to the left, trying to get around SC keeper, Sue Jenney (Agawam, Mass.). Sani's shot barely drifted past the goal line as a diving Jenney tried to save it with just seconds remaining in the match.
Jenney made 12 saves in the match for the 3-1-1 Pride.
SC will next be at Brandeis University on Saturday afternoon, September 17, in a 1:00 p.m. start. The Pride will open its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) season at home on Saturday, September 24, at 1:00 p.m. against Wheaton College.
