SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 12, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore back Kayla Thibeault (Lebanon, Conn.) has been selected as a member of the D3Kicks.com “Team of the Week” for women’s soccer, in the website’s second weekly national report of the 2006 season. Thibeault has been honored this week as one of just three total defenders in all of Division III women’s soccer.
Thibeault, a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School and transfer from Manhattan College, scored the game-winning goal in the Pride’s latest victory over Western New England College (WNEC), back on Tuesday, September 5th. The score happened to be Thibeault’s first in an SC uniform, as it came with just 1:43 left in regulation (88:17) and propelled the Pride to its first 3-0 start since the 2001 season. SC has never been 4-0 in the history of its program.
The Pride looks to make history come Wednesday night (Sept. 13), when SC hosts the Williams College Ephs in a non-conference battle on Brock-Affleck Field at 7:30 p.m. The match will be the second of a Pride soccer doubleheader, as the SC men host Wesleyan University at 5:00 p.m.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 10th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in three of the last four years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 110-56-14 record.
