Six Field Hockey Players Earn NEWMAC All-Academic Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 16, 2005- Springfield College seniors Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.), Erin Bosch (Shoreham, N.Y.), Sarah Brooker (Auburn, Maine), junior Trina Palmer (Uxbridge, Mass.), and sophomores Julia Kincade (Durham, N.H.) and Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) have all been named to the 2005 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Academic All-Conference Team.
Honorees must have met the following criteria to be named to the All-Academic Team: earned a minimum cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2005 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Bascetta, a graduate of Granby Memorial, has accumulated a 3.790 GPA into the fall of her senior season as a physician’s assistant major at SC. While excelling in the classroom, Bascetta also had a very solid senior campaign for the Pride, scoring 10 goals and adding two assists for a season-high 22 points while being named to the All-NEWMAC first-team. Bosch, a Shoreham-Wading River graduate, has recorded an impressive 3.906 GPA as an english major on campus, while scoring five goals to go along with three assists for 13 points this season. Brooker, a physical therapy major garnering a 3.596 GPA, scored a team-best 33 points in her senior season (15 goals, three assists) and earned first-team All-NEWMAC honors.
Palmer, who resides in Uxbridge, Mass., is a psychology major with a 3.537 cumulative GPA. The junior played in nine games this season. Kincade, an Oyster River graduate, currently has a 3.779 GPA as a sports management major at SC. The sophomore goalie played seven games this season in net for the Pride, starting one, while recording a 3-0 record for the season. Veazie, the Dexter, Maine, native, has a 3.936 GPA as an applied exercise science major. The second-team All-NEWMAC selection scored nine goals and assisted on four other scores for 22 points this season.
