Golf Seeks First NEWMAC Title In 2002
Despite having just one senior on this season’s team, head coach Joe Eadie returns an experienced group a veterans poised to capture its first NEWMAC title.“Last season, we had 11 freshmen and sophomores on the roster, some of whom were getting their first taste of college golf,” Eadie said. “The fall season was tough, but we had a good spring. I feel we are ready to take the next step.”
Eadie believes his team can build on its 11th-place finish at Massachusetts Intercollegiate Golf Championship in April, which featured a 21-team field of Division I, II and III programs. Senior Gregg Hannan turned in an impressive effort at the NEWMAC Championship, where finished tied for seventh, and was the Pride’s top finisher at the Duke Nelson Invitational, placing in a tie for 23rd in a field of over 100 golfers. Sophomore Todd Delaney and Michael Regan gained considerable experience by competing in seven events as freshmen last fall. Delaney looks to improve on a solid first sesaon, while Regan, a local product from nearby Granby, Mass., finished in a ninth-place tie at the NEWMAC Championship. Justin Franczek, a native of Chicopee, will also be looked to lead a much-improved squad.
The Pride plays a difficult schedule featuring some of the top tournaments in the region. SC opens the fall campaign with two of the premier events on the Division III golf circuit: the Skidmore Invitational (Sept. 10) and the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury (Sept. 14-15). The Pride travels to the Williams Invitational (Sept. 22-23) before competing in the ECAC Division III Regional Qualifier (Sept. 26). The Western New England Invitational (Oct. 10) will serve as a tune-up for NEWMAC Championship (Oct. 12), which will be held in Worcester, Mass. SC travels north to the Shattuck Invitational (Oct. 16) to face against three Division II programs before heading to Cape Cod for the prestigious New England Championship (Oct. 20-22).

The reigning NECC Golf Coach of the Year, Joe Eadie enters his 16th season as the head men's golf coach at Springfield College in the fall of 2009. Eadie is the head golf professional at the Fenway Golf Range in nearby East Longmeadow, and is in the process of becoming a PGA Professional. Read more.
