Men's Gymnastics Finishes Third In Tri-Meet
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., February 29, 2004 – Springfield College senior Jenny Romano-Joseph (Shutesbury, Mass.) won the vault competition (9.625) en route to a seventh place finish in the all-around (37.025) as the Pride finished second in a tri-meet with Southern Connecticut and MIT in Blake Arena this afternoon (Feb. 29).
The Pride (8-8) compiled a school record 186.650 team points, breaking the record set last Sunday (Feb. 22) of 186.350 points. Southern, who finished first in the tri-meet, compiled 189.250 team points. MIT placed third with 184.075 points.
SC freshman Keriann Hart (Hanover, Mass.) finished fifth in the all-around competition (37.175) and the uneven bars (9.300) in the tri-meet. Pride junior Larissa Tabin (Holyoke, Mass.) put up a strong performance, finishing first in the floor exercise (9.750).
Southern Connecticut senior Kristan Silvestri won the uneven bars (9.500) and all-around competition (38.200) to lead the Owls (7-3) on Sunday.
On the men’s side, Springfield College senior Tim Goetz (South Plainfield, N.J.) finished in a tie for second on the parallel bars (8.600) along with a third place finish in the all-around competition (51.250) as the Pride finished third in a tri-meet with Navy and Air Force on Sunday (Feb. 29) in Blake Arena.
SC (5-8) compiled 201.700 team points in the tri-meet, with first-place Navy finishing compiling 204.425 team points. Air Force finished second in the meet with 203.150 points.
Pride sophomore Shawn Fournier (Lewiston, Maine) placed third on the pommel horse on Sunday, with a 8.300 score.
Air Force (1-6) sophomore Greg Stine won the floor exercise (9.000) and the vault (9.000) on his way to a first-place finish in the all-around (52.650).
Navy (7-4) junior Ben Peterman put up a strong performance on the pommel horse, finishing second with an 8.550 mark.
