Navy Wins 2008 USAG Men's Gymnastics National Team Title at Springfield College
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- March 28, 2008 -- The U.S. Naval Academy scored 339.300 points to win the 2008 USA Gymnastics Men's Collegiate Team Championship, varsity division, tonight at Springfield College's Blake Arena. Navy last won this title in 2000. Meanwhile, Arizona State, by scoring 319.200 points, won the collegiate (club) division team title for the second straight year.The following are the final team scores for the five "varsity" teams that were competing -- Navy (339.300), William & Mary (338.450), Air Force (335.100), host Springfield College (326.200), and MIT (317.000). William & Mary had won the team title in this division for the past seven years.

The following are the final team scores for the five "collegiate" teams that were competing -- Arizona State (319.200), James Madison (293.200), Washington (289.550), Texas (282.550), and Brockport (255.800).
Also, the USAG top All-Arounders were determined tonight. The following are the top 10 All-Arounders on the "varsity" side -- Greg Stine, Air Force (86.800), Dylan Parrott, Navy (84.300), Derek Gygax, William & Mary (82.950), Josh Fox, Springfield (81.200), Christopher Tam, Navy (80.300), Brennan Wolford, Air Force (80.250), Joshua Coblenz, MIT (80.200), Jake Shapiro, MIT (79.500), Boris Rasin, MIT (79.200), and Tom Caldwell, MIT (77.500).
The following are the Top 10 All-Arounders on the "collegiate" side -- Ivan Koveshnikov, Washington (81.850), Anthony Naddour, Arizona State (81.350), Charles Baysinger, Arizona State (78.850), Dillon Saunders, Arizona State (76.350), Light Townsend, Texas (76.150), Josh Bradley, Arizona State (75.350), Stirling Van Winkle, James Madison (75.150), Marc Miller, Washington (72.900), Audi McGookey, Texas (72.650), Matthew Huckfeldt ,James Madison (70.500), and Patrick Bookjans, James Madison (70.500), the last two tying for 10th.

The following competitors, by finishing in the top eight of their event, will now be eligible to compete in Saturday night's individual championships. Friday night's scores are thrown out. Each competitor starts out with a clean slate.

Head Coach Steve Posner
Entering his 28th season as head men's gymnastics coach, Dr. Steve Posner is recognized as one of the most outstanding gymnastics coaches in the East. Posner, who has coached 135 All-Americans and 18 National Champions, led the Pride to another successful season in 2009. He has been named the NACGA Eastern Region Coach of the Year in each of the last two years.
