ITHACA, N.Y. — February 4, 2008 -- Paced behind an outstanding individual performance from sophomore Alexandra Ploenes, the Springfield College women's gymnastics team edged the host Ithaca Bombers, 182.550-181.675 on Saturday afternoon.
Ploenes captured the all-around title with a score of 37.175 for the meet. The sophomore placed first on the balance beam with a 9.525 and registered a second-place finish in the floor exercise with a 9.500. She also finished fourth on the bars with a mark of 9.075 and placed 10th on the vault with a 9.075.
The Pride swept the vault as Jacqueline Mazzola took first with a mark of 9.575, and was followed by Ericca Castagna's 9.525, and Brittany Davis' 9.450.
Brittany Davis placed second behind Ploenes on the beam with a 9.325 and Jenna Williams finished second on the bards with a 9.175.
The Pride return to action on Saturday when it hosts Rhode Island College.
