Clapp Earns NEWMAC Runner Of The Week
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 13, 2003 -- Springfield College senior All-American Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) is the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week in women's cross country, announced Monday.
This is the second time this season that Clapp, who is the two-time defending conference runner of the year, has won the NEWMAC's weekly award. On Wednesday, she was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Runner of the Week.
Clapp continued her spectacular season at last weekend's New England Championship held at Franklin Park in Boston, leading the Pride with an astounding second-place finish in a field that featured runners from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions. Recording the best finish and time ever by an SC runner at the New England meet, Clapp covered the 5,000-meter course in 17:45, which was one second shy of the individual champion from Amherst College.
Clapp and the Pride compete in the Southern Maine Invitational on Sat., Oct. 18.
