Women's Track & Field Runs Past MIT, 84-73

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 8, 2004 – In the Pride’s season-opener, senior captain
Sarah Martin (Madison, N.H.), led the women’s track & field team to an 84-73 victory over M.I.T last night at the Johnson Athletic Center.
Martin captured first place in the triple jump (33 feet, 10 inches) and the 55-meter hurdles (9.12). Other two-event winners for SC included junior
Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) in the 55-meter dash (7.50) and 200 (27.59) and senior
Amanda Alpert (Saugus, Mass.) in the shot put (40-5.5) and weight throw (43-2.5).
Junior
Alisha Minor (Sanbornton, N.H.) (62.18) and freshman
Whitney DeGroff (Tigard, Ore.) (62.86) went one-two, respectively in the 400 while junior
Melissa Pannell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) jumped to first in the high jump (4-10) and freshman
Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) placed second (4-10).

Jim Pennington enters his 26th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2009-2010. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
