Springfield College
"Think Pink" at Saturday's Doubleheader at Blake Arena
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- February 13, 2008 – The Springfield College men’s and women’s basketball teams will be hosting a doubleheader this Saturday, February 16 on James Naismith Court at Blake Arena with an eye towards assisting the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) “Think Pink” initiative.

This year, the initiative is running from February 8 through 17. As many as 900 colleges and universities throughout the nation have planned events designed to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, and in communities and beyond, during the week.

The Springfield men will first host Wheaton College at 1 pm, followed by the Springfield women hosting Clark University at 3 pm Saturday.

Springfield College plans to raise breast cancer awareness in the following ways – the first 100 fans at each game will be presented pink ribbons as they enter; the Springfield College women’s basketball team will be wearing pink T-shirts during warm-ups; the arena will be decorated with signs and pink balloons; the women’s game program will be pink; and the LIVE STATS internet service, available on the Springfield College athletics home page for both games, will be featured mainly in pink.

Springfield College is requesting fans wear pink apparel to these two contests.

ADMISSION TO BOTH GAMES IS FREE, BUT SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE IS REQUESTING DONATIONS BE MADE AT THE GATE TOWARDS FINDING A CURE FOR BREAST CANCER.
