Melissa Nelson: Women's Swimming and Diving
Melissa Nelson has been chosen Springfield College's Female Maroon Club Athlete of the Week (Jan. 21) after she had outstanding showings in a pair of meets this week win the led the women's swimming and diving team.The Wallingford, Conn. native opened up the week with an impressive performance at NYU on Wednesday afternoon. On the one-meter board, Nelson placed first with her national qualifying mark of 271.88 and recorded a third-place finish on the three-meter with a mark of 232.20.
Over the weekend in a tri-meet with conference-rivals Coast Guard and MIT, Nelson once again recorded national qualifying marks on both boards. In a field that featured some of the top divers in the country, including MIT's two-time national champion Doria Holbrook, Nelson was outstanding. Placing first in the one-meter with a 262.20, she also finished third in three-meter with a score of 263.90.
Nelson and the Pride return to action on Saturday when they play host to Williams College at 1:00 pm.
