Junior Cornerback Joe Harasymiak Tied for Sixth in the Nation in Interceptions

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 28, 2006 - The Springfield College football team is off to an impressive 3-0 record, which includes wins over then-11th ranked Union College (38-30), Montclair State (27-15), and Alfred University (41-34). A huge factor in the Pride’s impressive start has been the play of its defensive squad, and specifically that of junior cornerback Joe Harasymiak.

Harasymiak, a cornerback from Waldwick, NJ., leads the Pride in interceptions. He has compiled three in the Pride’s first three contests, giving him an average of 1.0 per game. That leaves Harasymiak ranked sixth nationally in Division III in interceptions. Adding to his impressive interception stats, Harasymiak has accumulated nine tackles (seven solo), along with two pass break-ups.

Joe is also currently tied for first in total interceptions with Brendan Recchia of Norwich University in the Empire 8 Conference. Harasymiak, however, is leading the conference in the category of interceptions per game, with his 1.0 average.

A physical education major at Springfield College, Harasymiak was a three-sport athlete at Waldwick High School, starring in football, basketball and baseball, before starting his football career with the Pride.

Joe is the son of Jane and Steve Harasymiak of Waldwick, N.J.

This week, Springfield College (3-0, 1-0) hosts Utica College (1-2, 0-0) in an Empire 8 Conference game at 1:00 p.m. at SC’s Benedum Field.
