Men's Gymnastics Second at the New England Invitationals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- March 22, 2008 -- The Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished second earlier today at the New England Invitationals at MIT. Illinois-Chicago was the winner with 347.900 points, followed by Springfield with 331.150, and MIT at 325.600.

Among individuals, Springfield had one finish first in the still rings. Junior Matthew Bolognese (Stony Brook, N.Y.) had a winning score of 15.25.

In the vault, senior JJ Ferreira (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished second with a score of 14.9, while sophomore Josh Spencer (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished third with a 14.8.

Junior Andy Kelly (Marstons Mill, Mass.) had a pair of third place finishes in the floor exercise (14.1) and parallel bars (14.8).

In the high bar, junior Pat Vaughn (Braintree, Mass.) placed fourth (13.8), and freshman Mike Freundlich (Westfield, N.J.) placed fifth (13.65).

Up next, Springfield College will host the 2008 USA Gymnastics Men's Collegiate Championships this Friday and Saturday, March 28-29 at Blake Arena. Both sessions will begin at 7 pm.
