No. 18 Men's Lacrosse Sneaks Past WNEC In Overtime, 14-13
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield College graduate student Craig Gibson (South Salem, N.Y.)
scored four goals, including the game-winner on a man-up situation just
15 seconds in overtime, as No. 18 Springfield College escaped with an
exciting 14-13 victory over city rival Western New England College in a
battle of previously unbeaten Pilgrim League teams.
WNEC (6-4, 3-1 Pilgrim) forced the extra session by scoring the last three goals
of the game, including the tying score by sophomore Adam Cherry with 54 seconds remaining in regulation. Cherry finished the contest with four goals.
It was a close game all the way with the Golden Bears taking its largest
lead at 3-1 while the Pride (5-4, 3-0 Pilgrim) held a three-goal advantage at
12-9 and 13-10 in the final period. There were eight ties in the game.
Springfield junior Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) added three goals to go along with four assists (including the game-winner) while senior Derek Pedrick (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored
twice in the third quarter.
Last year Springfield defeated Western New England College 12-11 in the
Pilgrim League championship game.
SC returns to action this Saturday (April 16) with a 3:00 p.m. Pilgrim-League matchup with Babson College.
