Baseball Hangs On For 6-5 Win At Wesleyan

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Conn - April 17, 2008 - Senior Justin Nussey was the big gun for Springfield, sending a two-run double into the left-centerfield gap in the first inning, then cracking a double to right in the 5th and scoring what proved to be the winning run on a throwing error as the Pride defeated Wesleyan, 6-5, on Wednesday.

He also had a second-inning single as he went 3-for-5. Junior Jamie Mackie had a second-inning RBI double and senior Rex Cone drove in a run for the Pride in the second with a single. Senior Ryan Hingston also went 3-for-5 for the Pride.

Wesleyan scored four of its five runs on homers as Chris Simpson launched a solo shot in the 4th, followed by a two-run bomb to dead center field by freshman Joe Giaimo. Giaimo also doubled and scored the first Wesleyan run on a groundout in the 3rd. In the 5th inning, freshman Julian Sonnenfeld pounded a solo round-tripper to cut the margin to 6-5. Wesleyan now has 24 homers on the year in 25 games.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew McIsaac entered the game in the 7th inning for Springfield and despite just 3.2 IP in his previous two appearances with a 7.36 ERA, he picked up the final nine outs without allowing a hit to hold Wesleyan at bay and pick up a save.

Sophomore Ryan White went the opening six innings for the victory.
