Derek Yvon Named All-Northeast Region First-Team Selection for Second-Straight Year
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 14, 2006 – Springfield College basketball players Derek Yvon and Courtney Parvin, each a co-captain, were today named 2006 All-Northeast Region by D3hoops.com.
Yvon, a 6-3 senior guard from East Longmeadow, Mass., and Cathedral High School, was named First-Team All-Northeast Region, while Parvin, a 5-10 senior forward from Brackney, Pa., and Montrose Area High School, was named Second-Team All-Northeast Region.
This is the second-straight year that Yvon has earned this award. He was also named a D3hoops.com Pre-Season All-America (Third Team) entering the 2005-06 campaign. He finished the season with an average of 23.0 ppg and 597 points scored overall. He was also named First-Team All-NEWMAC for the third-straight year, after being named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2002-03. He scored his 2000th career point and broke the Springfield all-time scoring record of 2,003, all on the same night on February 7 during an 83-67 win over Clark at home. He finished his career with a new SC scoring mark of 2,101 points.
Parvin also had a great season, as she was selected the NEWMAC Player of the Year. She was a First-Team All-NEWMAC selection for the second-straight year. Courtney led her squad to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in her four-year career. SC wound up winning the NEWMAC regular-season championship by a full three games over both Mount Holyoke and WPI. SC then won the NEWMAC post-season tourney by defeating Mount Holyoke, 57-51, on February 26. The Pride then lost at Messiah College, 70-56, in the first round of the NCAA Tourney, and finished 22-7.
Courtney averaged 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds, and shot excellent figures of .740 from the free throw line and .410 from three-point range.

Head Coach Charlie Brock
Charlie Brock in 2009-10 will enter his 12th season as the head coach at Springfield College. Brock’s achievements as a coach are certainly impressive, as he has taken three schools to the NCAA Division III Tournament and has an overall, 29-year record of 394-363 for a winning percentage of .520.
