SOUTH HADLEY, Mass., April 6, 2004 - Springfield College junior forward Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored four goals, while freshman forward Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) added a goal and four assists to lead the Pride to a 15-4 victory over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action.
The win was the fifth in a row for SC (5-1, 4-0 NEWMAC), which has outscored its opposition 101-34 during the streak.
Six unanswered goals, including four by Looney and two by freshman midfielder Melissa Pond (Wayland, Mass.), gave the Pride a 6-0 lead with 21:36 remaining in the first half.
Three-straight Mount Holyoke goals cut the lead in half, 6-3, with 5:19 remaining in the first period. Pride junior Erin Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the first of her two goals of the afternoon with 3:51 on the clock to close out the first half with SC on top, 7-3.
SC would put the game away with a 9-0 second-half run to remain undefeated in the NEWMAC. Pond finished the game with three goals, while Smith compiled two goals and an assist.
SC will host Plymouth State on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in a non-league contest before hosting defending NEWMAC champion Wheaton on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
