Women's Gymnastics Third In National Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 22, 2005 -- The Springfield College women’s gymnastics team, which is coming off a big win over D-II Southern Connecticut, is ranked third nationally in Division III in four categories. The national rankings were release today.
The Pride is third in the team rankings on the vault (45.969), the uneven bars (44.725) and the floor exercise (47.219). SC is also third nationally in team score average (183.231), and ranks fourth on the balance beam (45.669).
Several individuals are among Division III’s leaders. Sophomore
Jillian Silverman (Ipswich, Mass.), who is fifth on the vault with a season average of 9.3700, is the Pride’s highest-ranked individual. Sophomore
Heather Tuden (Londonderry, N.H.) ranks sixth on the floor exercise (9.600) and 11th in the all-around (36.600). Freshman
Kerry McGowan (East Lyme, Conn.) is eighth nationally on balance beam (9.3625), and junior
Larissa Tabin (Holyoke, Mass.) is 10th in Division III in the floor exercise (9.5875) and teammate
Cara Chadbourne (New Salem, Mass.) is 11th (9.5562).
SC posted a season-high score in its 186.000-183.775 victory over Southern Connecticut Sunday in Blake Arena. The Pride travels to MIT on Saturday for dual meet that begins at 4 p.m.
