Women's Track & Field Finishes 12th At New England DIII Championships
BRUNSWICK, Maine, February 21, 2004 – Springfield College senior Pawel Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.29 as the Pride finished fifth out of 22 scoring teams at this weekend’s New England Division III Championships held at Bowdoin College.
In the field events, it was junior Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) who won the long jump competition with a distance of 7.03 meters. SC junior Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) finished second in the high jump, with a 1.99-meter mark.
Pride freshman Chris Allen (Sandwich, Mass.) contributed with strong performances on both the high jump and long jump. Allen finished sixth in the high jump (1.94 meters), and fifth in the long jump (6.58 meters).
On the women’s side, it was Pride senior Leyla Williams (Unionville, N.Y.) finishing fourth in the weight throw (48 feet, 4 ½ inches) to lead SC to 12th place out of 23 scoring teams in the New England Division III Championships held at MIT.
SC sophomore Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) put up a pair of strong performances, finishing eighth in both the 1,500-meter (5:00.79) and the 3,000-meter (10:39.84) runs.
Pride sophomore Sarah Tyman (West Suffield, Conn.) placed fifth in the 600-meter run with a time of 141:16.
SC now heads to the New England Championships at Boston University on Friday and Saturday, February 27-28.
