Men's Soccer Falls to NESCAC Foe, Amherst College, 1-0

AMHERST, Mass., September 27, 2006 – Springfield College drops to an overall mark of 2-6-2 after losing 1-0 to non-conference foe, Amherst College, this evening at Hitchcock Field.

The Lords Jeffs scored the eventual game-winner early when junior midfielder Kevin Dolan netted his first goal of the season in the ninth minute of the match off a long free kick by junior defender William Warner.

The Lord Jeffs controlled possession throughout the majority of the match, outshooting the Pride by a margin of 23-4. Amherst also held the edge in corner kicks, 8-3. However, the Pride stayed within striking distance, holding the Lord Jeffs scoreless for the remaining 81 minutes of regulation. SC managed four shots on goal, but was unable to find the net with an equalizer.

Springfield College goalkeeper Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del.) totaled eight saves in the defeat. Driscoll’s season record drops to 1-3-1.

Amherst College’s sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Grover put aside four shots in the non-conference contest. With the 1-0 victory, Amherst College remains undefeated in its 2007 campaign.

Springfield College returns to action on Saturday, September 30th. The Pride travels to Wheaton College looking for its first conference victory of the season. The two teams take the field at 1:00 p.m.
