Boxscore

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., September 24, 2005 – Springfield College sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Petri (East Granby, Conn.) shutout Wheaton College in the first half, but the Lyons were able to score three goals within a ten-minute span in the second half to defeat the Pride, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in both squad’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener.

Petri made a tremendous diving save off a Lyons’ free kick to keep the score tied at 0 apiece going into the break, but Wheaton sophomore forward Lauren Konopka scored her first of two goals at the 67:10 mark to give the Lyons a lead they would not surrender. Sophomore forward Julie McLane scored the third goal for Wheaton off a pass from classmate Katelyn Brack.

Wheaton, a squad that reached the 2004 Division III Final Four a year ago, improvs its record to 5-4 overall, 1-0 in the NEWMAC while the Pride falls to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

SC will travel to Western Connecticut for a non-conference match this Tuesday, September 27, at 7:00pm.
