Men's Cross Country Ties For Fifth Place At NEWMAC Championship

WELLESLEY, Mass., Nov. 2, 2002 – Springfield College junior Marisa Clapp (Charlton, Mass.) won the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Cross Country Championship to lead the Pride to fourth place with 93 points in the 10 team field.

Clapp covered the 3.1 mile course in a time of 18:02, 36 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Host Wellesley College won the meet with 61 points.

SC freshman Meg Young (Hurley, N.Y.) finished 12th in a time of 19:41 while sophomore Kelley Henry (Whitinsville, Mass.) finished 14th in a time of 19:48.

On the men’s side, Springfield senior Michael Notary (Bethlehem, Pa.) finished 17th with a time of 28:33 to lead the Pride to a tie for fifth place with 122 points. MIT won the meet with 25 points.

SC sophomore Steve Wilson (W. Hartford, Conn.) placed 23rd in a time of 28:49 and junior Peter Gillen (New Milford, Conn.) finished 31st in a time of 19:17.
