SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 19, 2005 – SUNY Brockport senior Carrie Santore (Webster, N.Y.) finished first in the all-around competition, while Ithaca College finished first in the team competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women’s Gymnastics Championships this afternoon, hosted by Springfield College.
The Bombers totaled 185.750 points, followed by Brockport (184.700), SUNY Cortland (184.675), Ursinus College (184.375) and Springfield (182.775) to round out the top-five teams in the eight-team field.
Santore was second in the floor exercise (9.775) and the uneven bars (9.475), while finishing fourth on the balance beam (9.500) and tied for eighth on vault (9.425) for a winning all-around total of 38.175.
Brockport junior Kristin Sheerin (Cohasset, Mass.) finished first on the balance beam (9.625), and Ursinus sophomore Jessica Furman (Monroe, N.Y.) took top honors in the uneven-bar competition (9.500), while Cortland junior Lindsey Marranca (Kenmore, N.Y.) and senior Colleen Shanahan (Williamsville, N.Y.) took first place in the vault (9.625) and the floor exercise (9.800), respectively, for the Red Dragons.
Springfield junior captain Larissa Tabin (Holyoke, Mass.) was runner-up on balance beam (9.575), while finishing in third place on floor exercise (9.725) for the host Pride.
The top-three teams qualify for the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse.
