NORTON, Mass., November 4, 2006 - Sophomore Timothy Winn scored twice in leading second-seeded Babson College to a 4-0 victory against No. 6 Springfield College during a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament men's soccer semifinal on Saturday at Wheaton College's Keefe Field.

The Beavers, who are now 12-5-3 and ranked 10th in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), picked up their 13th shutout. The Pride falls to 6-12-2. Babson moves on to face host Wheaton in the championship game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers and Lyons have met six times during postseason play in the last seven years, and they will square off in the NEWMAC Tournament final for the first time since 2000.

After more than 30 minutes of scoreless play, Winn netted the first goal in the 35th minute for the lone marker of the first half. During a closely-contested stanza, SC held a 4-3 advantage in shots while each team drew five corner kicks.

Babson put the match away with three goals on six shots during the second half. Junior Chris Schwartz doubled the Beavers' lead during the 53rd minute off freshman Daniel Fogarty's assist, while Winn converted a penalty kick in the 73rd minute to make it 3-0. Junior Garrett Bates completed the scoring off a touch from senior Mark Dayvie with five minutes remaining.

The Pride outshot Babson, 11-10, while the Beavers held an 8-6 edge in corners. Junior Chris Necklas turned aside three shots for the victorious Beavers, while junior Ryan Driscoll (Wilmington, Del.) had one stop for SC.
