Field Hockey Advances to NEWMAC Semifinals

Boxscore

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 29, 2005 - Springfield College senior Meghan Bascetta (Granby, Conn.) recorded the only goal of the game as the No. 2 Pride shutout seventh-seeded Clark University, 1-0, in the first round of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Tournament this afternoon (Oct. 29) at Benedum field.

With the game tied 0-0 for virtually the entire contest, SC appeared headed for its eighth overtime game of the season. Bascetta changed all that with one shot, however, finding the net in the 67th minute of action (66:34) on an unassisted score to put the Pride up 1-0. The goal was Bascetta's 10th of the season, as it lifted SC to 18-2 overall.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) improved her overall record on the 2005 season to 15-2, while recording her fourth shutout of the year. Clark junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Kelley stopped an impressive 27 Pride shots on goal.

SC travels to Babson College on Saturday, November 5, to challenge No. 3 Wellesley College in the NEWMAC Semifinals, as the Pride has now won seven-straight and 15 of 16. The time of the semifinal contest will be announced at a later time.
