SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 29, 2007 – Springfield College senior midfielder Lisa Thomas (Whitman, Mass.) scored three goals to go along with three draw controls and two ground balls, but the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College slipped past the Pride, 7-6, this evening in non-conference action at Benedum Field. Amherst scored the game’s final four goals to claim the victory.

The Lord Jeffs (4-1) were paced by sophomore attack Amy Craig and senior attack Alyssa Briody. Craig netted a game-high five scores in the win, as Briody added one goal and four assists. Briody assisted Craig on Amherst’s final three goals of the game, lifting the Lord Jeffs to their fourth victory of the season.

SC senior attack Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) scored the Pride’s first two goals of the contest. Sophomore attack Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) came off the bench to contribute with a score, and senior attack Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.) chipped in with an assist. Freshman midfielder Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.) led all players with five ground balls.

In goal, Amherst junior Linda McEvoy made five saves, as SC freshman Lauren McAuley (Yorktown, N.Y.) also stopped five shots in the loss. McAuley falls to 3-3 overall on the season.

The Pride opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game on an Eidse goal. Another score from the senior tied the contest at two apiece in the ninth minute of play (8:50). Two Thomas scores then gave SC a 4-3 halftime lead. To start the second stanza, goals from Dobson and Thomas gave the Pride a 6-3 lead with just over 15 minutes left in regulation. The Lord Jeffs responded, however, scoring the game’s next four goals to seal the victory.

SC will next travel to Norton, Mass., for its New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener at Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 31) at 1:00 p.m.
