Prachniak Honored As NEWMAC Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., November 7, 2005- Springfield College junior forward Janna Prachniak (Lincoln, R.I.) has been named this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week in field hockey.

Prachniak, a graduate of Lincoln High School, scored the game-winning goal with 4:18 left in overtime as the No. 2 Pride defeated top-seeded Babson College in the championship game of the 2005 NEWMAC Tournament on Sunday (Nov. 6) afternoon. Her first goal of the season gave the Pride its second-straight conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

SC has won ten-straight games heading into the tournament and 18 of its last 19. The Pride has been awarded a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament and will take on the winner of Middlebury/Manhattanville on Saturday, November 12, in a 2:00 p.m. start at Bowdoin College.
